Expansion of the AEX-index

11 March 2025

After a round of consultations, Euronext reported today that the composition of the AEX index will change in September 2025. The index will then consist of 30 funds instead of the current 25. The idea is that the 5 largest funds from the Amsterdam Mid Cap Index (AMX) will be promoted to the Amsterdam main index. In turn, the 5 largest funds from the Amsterdam Small Cap Index (AScX) will move to the AMX index. The AScX index, which currently consists of 25 funds, will then be limited to 20 funds. Euronext’s objective for this expansion – the first since 1989 when the number was increased from 13 to 25 funds – is to strengthen the diversity and balance of funds within the index and thus increase the attractiveness of the Amsterdam Exchange.

Update: in September 2025, the expansion of the AEX index actually took place.
